Similar to another shield sold here a few weeks ago (ebay 370083382166). However, this one is in significantly better condition and is also the last one available. The previous owner lived & worked in turkey and collected local militaria. His documentation indicates that this shiled was found in a small village near ankara in 1965. Approximately 11 (28 cm) diameter. Weighs 2 lbs 14 oz (~ 1.3 kg). Conical center about three inches higher than the edge. Wood frame covered with heavy duty woven matting, then attached to steel shield center and perimeter. Stele bands (all intact) attached to the frame, radiate from the center circle to perimeter steel. Inside there's cloth-covered matting, approximately half remaining. The wovne leather grip is separated from the mat by the original leather knuckle protector, separating the shield back from the user's fist. At top and bottom, the grip is secuerd to the shield by three woven bands.
Supplementary rings dangle from the grip ends. An extraordinary militaria piece. Seldom seen. Well preserved. Rarely offered. Satisfaction & authenticity guaranteed.
