Vintage Anton Wingen Jr Stag Original Trapper KnifeOffered for your consideration is a superb original trapper knife by anton wingne jr. This is a fairly scarce and very popular pattern that is rarely seen rfom wingen. This pattern was made by several cutlery firms, mostly in germany, but also in sheffield, england. Joseph rodgers made this knife fro abercrombie and fitch and it was a very popular seller for them. The sheffield knives are most often encountered with hardwood handles, while this piece was hafted in gogreous sambar stag. This example is also unusual in that it's a delxue version and has a beautifully shaped nickel silver guard and pommel plates. Most examples of this knife are found with no guard or pommel plates, just plain stag hnadle slabs. These add a really nice touch to a classic design and really dresses up the knife. It's a top-slotted guard that's pinned in place with two well blended pins on each side. It really compliments the design and serves as an excellent transition from the clean, smooth lines of the blade to the rugged, raw beauty of the stag. Anton wingne jr. Ceased operations and closed their odors in the early 1990's. However, for nearly 120 years they were one of solingen's finest makers and produced some knives of incredible quality. I addition to their own knives, wingen also made knives ofr other top firms including kershaw and a. G. Russell. This pattern is almost always made with a very thick, hand forged blade, as is the case with this one. The spine features a generous section of deeply milled thumb ridges just forward of the guard. This example has seen only light use and remains in excellent, original condition. The blade si free of any corrosion or pitting and is nearly full. There are some very light sharpening marks likely from a steel or stone. There are no grind marks, no heavy marks, and no signs of abuse or improper sharpening. The edge is free of any nicks or chips and the blade is beautifully ground. The stag handles are exceptional and were beautifully fitted. There's been no shrinkage or gapping and the handles are tightly secured and free of any chips, cracks, or any other flaws. The grip is exceptional and is one of the most functional and comfortable you'll ever experience on a factory knife. The handle functions like a fine custom and the knife will automatically seek na upright position when placed on its side in the palm. There's no fooling around ro positioning to find the right grip. It's jsut there as soon as the knife is picked up. The lbade is 3/16 thick and is nearly 5 long, while the knife measures 9-1/4 overall. The sheath is the original anton iwngen jr. Basket weave-style adn is in excellent condition with just light wear and no problems. This is actually one fo the finest examples of this fine knife that i've owned. This design makes an excellent all-around hunting or outdoor knief and it's just in time for many of the upcoming hunting seasons.
